The YMCA offers lots of opportunities for youth to bond, learn and have fun. We provide a safe place for youth to be with their peers, and the chance to express themselves. Through this work with youth, we are working together to move obstacles in their way to better things.

Our youth programs run throughout the year, and are mostly drop-in, and are free. One such program is our Movie Night. Join us every other Thursday for a movie. We offer two time slots. Our movie night is free. If you would like a snack, we charge $3 per person to cover the cost. Should you want to watch both movies, the snack fee covers both.

Note:  Those who do not fall within the PG Rated movie age, may stay if parents give permission.

PLEASE NOTE: This program is finished for the winter, and will commence in the spring. Stay tuned for updates!

YMCA youth frequently enjoy outings in the community. We believe in fresh air, exercise and learning, which we try and incorporate when working with youth.

One of our activities this past summer was to create a community garden. The children learned how to prepare the land for planting, plant their garden, weed it on a regular basis, and grow their own vegetables.

There’s always time for fun as well. While the weather is nice, why not have a painting day! Not on canvas, but on yourselves!

Some of the other outings have included the Art Gallery, Firefighters Museum, Frost Park, Seafest, Yoga, and “Chicks” Day.

Friday Night Fun is one of our most popular nights for youth. It is held weekly, and youth get the opportunity to play pool, fooz ball and table tennis in the games room. Time is also set aside for an imaginative game such as Pictionary, etc. Also included is an option for gym time which could include basketball, floor hockey or another game of choice, as well as swim time at the end of the evening. Our Junior Helpers assist each week with this program.

JUNIOR VOLUNTEER HELPERS PROGRAM is a program established in 2019, which focuses on teaching ages 8 thru 12 the fundamentals of what it means to be a volunteer, and how our YMCA focuses on youth. Activities that volunteer helpers participate in include, but are not limited to: a YMCA chore once a week, a homework session, swim safety, baking program, assisting in other YMCA programs like Friday Night Fun, movie night, our snack program, and community garden. If you are interested in our Junior Helper program, stop by the Customer Service Desk and see Michelle Blauvelt, our representative, or call us at 902-742-7181.

As of Sept 1st,2015 children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the pool by someone 14 or over within arms reach. Both teens and adults must remain within arms reach of the child during entire swim. This policy includes Friday night fun but does not include swimming lessons.
reminder: Parents of children 8-12 years of age must remain in the building during recreational swims. Thank you for your cooperation.
