Balance and coordination is the ability to maintain a controlled position during a task, whether it is sitting at a table, or stepping onto a curb.

Static balance is the ability to hold a position with much control, such as “freeze” or “statue” games. Dynamic balance, is the ability to remain in balance while moving, like on a bicycle.

youth28Balance and coordination are important for physical skill performance, and very helpful in all sports. What can we do to improve balance and coordination?

*strengthen the core
*teach proper mechanics and correct alignment of the body
*simplify tasks and concentrate on only one movement at a time, until the child is ready to integrate several at once.
